New Code, New Design

New Code, New Design

After several years of incremental updates, I decided it was time to completely rethink Epickreations.com from both a design and technical perspective. Like many long-running websites, the platform had evolved over time, accumulating outdated code, design patterns, and workflows that no longer reflected my current skills or approach to user experience design.

Rather than applying another round of patches and visual updates, I chose to rebuild the site from the ground up.

Starting with the User Experience

As both the designer and developer, I approached this project through a UX lens first. The goal was not simply to create a more modern website, but to create an experience that was easier to navigate, easier to maintain, and more accessible for every visitor.

I reviewed the existing information architecture, content organization, and user flows to identify opportunities for improvement. The redesign focused on reducing visual clutter, improving readability, and making it easier for visitors to explore my portfolio, case studies, and professional background.

A Modern Foundation

One of the most significant changes was migrating the site to Bootstrap 5 and developing an entirely custom WordPress theme. Building a custom theme allowed me to eliminate unnecessary dependencies, improve performance, and create a codebase tailored specifically to the needs of the site.

The new architecture provides a cleaner development workflow while making future enhancements significantly easier to implement.

Leveraging the WordPress Block Editor

A key objective of the rebuild was improving content management. By embracing the native WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg), I created a more flexible publishing experience that allows content to be created and updated without relying on custom page builders or excessive plugin dependencies.

This approach not only improves maintainability but also ensures that content remains portable and aligned with WordPress core standards.

Designing for Accessibility and Comfort

Accessibility played an important role throughout the redesign process. Typography, color contrast, spacing, and responsive behavior were carefully considered to create a comfortable reading experience across devices.

One feature introduced during the redesign was a Light and Dark Mode toggle, giving visitors the ability to choose the viewing experience that best suits their environment and personal preference.

Meaningful Motion

Animations were implemented with restraint and purpose. Rather than relying on excessive movement, subtle custom CSS animations were used to provide visual feedback, improve engagement, and support the overall user experience.

The objective was to create moments of delight without distracting from the content itself.

Fully Responsive by Design

The site was designed and tested across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices to ensure a consistent experience regardless of screen size. Layouts, typography, navigation patterns, and interactive elements were optimized to remain functional and accessible throughout the responsive breakpoints.

Looking Ahead

This redesign represents more than a visual refresh. It reflects my evolution as a designer, developer, and problem solver. By combining modern development practices with user-centered design principles, the new Epickreations.com serves as both a portfolio and an ongoing laboratory for experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement.

As new projects, case studies, and ideas emerge, the platform is now built to grow alongside them.
